Florida Airboat Rides

A trip to Florida can be made even more memorable with a trip on an Airboat through the vast area of swampland that Florida contain's. Florida may be known for it's theme park's and entertainment value but there really is so much more to see.

Swampland is a fantastic place to be if you want to see wildlife in it's natural environment. The problem with the swamp's is that you really need to be traveling through them to really appreciate what they have to offer. To be honest though I wouldn't recommend wading or swimming your way around as this could prove to be a bit on the dangerous side. Taking an airboat ride would probable be your best (and safest) option to tour the swamp's. The good folk in Florida realized that people needed a way to see the natural beauty that Florida had to offer so they started offering airboat ride's to paying customer's. Nowadays' you'll find any number of company's offering competitive rate's to take a tour on the swamp's.

The Everglade's in southern Florida is probably the best known region for swampland. People often associate the Everglade's with one large lake covered with plant's and dangerous animal's, but it really is not quite like that. There is plenty of solid land in the everglade's so you'll not be forever floating on a boat. It has several quality national park's to visit where many activities are available in one spot. You'll also find many quality restaurant's in the Everglade's including many great seafood restaurant's as fishing here in the Everglade's is one of the most popular activitie's to do.

If your staying in the Orlando area and you don't wish to travel south to the Everglade's you'll also find swamp airboat ride's closer to home. Believe it or not you can experience the excitement of an airboat ride only minute's from Kissimmee near Orlando as the swampland area of Florida begin's to appear around this area. Combi tour's are available from most major Hotel reception's which let's you enjoy two activities' in one trip. One of the best trip's to take would be an airboat swamp tour followed by a half day at the Kennedy Space Center. The great thing about this type of tour is that each activity can be done in the same day without having to much traveling all for one price.

So what experience's can you expect on an airboat ride? The first thing you'll probably experience is a lot of noise so make sure you put on the large ear protector's usually supplied by the tour company. The airboat's themselves' can vary in shape and size. Some will seat only a small number of guest's, while other's can seat around 17 or more. The driver's of the boat's usually sit up high behind everyone but sometimes's the boat can be driven from the front.

Once out in the swamp the driver's keep their eye's peeled for any wildlife and as soon as they see something they slow the boat down for everyone to see. Alligator's are in abundance around these area's so seeing them up close is more than likely. Bird's include the Wood Stork, Spoonbill, Crane and Heron to name but a few. One of the rarest animal's to be seen in the Everglade's is the Florida Panther. Your unlikely to see one while your in an airboat as these creature's live in the upland's and as there is only about 100 left in Florida they are considered extremely endangered.

Raccoon's, Bobcat's and the good old Skunk can be seen sometime's. You'll also find snake's roaming the Everglade's plus many type's of frog including the huge Bullfrog.

An Airboat trip in Florida is a great way to experience wildlife at it's purest as the environment. has been virtually untouched. Apart from the beauty of the land and the wildlife it is great fun experiencing the speed of the airboat as it cut's through the reed's and grass that surround you.

To sum up - You'll not get to experience this type of trip in too many place's outside Florida, so it's well worth the time while your here.
