Animal Kingdom Review
Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando is a blend of high thrill's mixed with a trip to the zoo - well this aint no ordinary zoo because this zoo belong's to Disney so you know your in for one hell of an adventure.
The Animal Kingdom opened it's door's for the first time in 1998 and covering 500 acre's is Disney's largest park - in fact it is the largest Park of it's type in the world. It is home to 1,700 animal's spread over 7 large themed area's.
Like all Disney Park's The animal Kingdom keep's with tradition and is centered arround a main feature. In the Animal Kingdom's case it is the magnificent 'Tree Of Life'. A man made tree that reaches 14 stories up into the sky and is totally covered in beautiful hand carved animal's. Some are hard to spot as they seem to just blend into the tree while other's seem to jump right out at you. Indeed these carving's are great for the kid's to spot as you queue for the attraction inside the tree, 'It's tough to be a bug' (an 8 minute 3d movie).
Similar in style to Busch Garden's
in Tampa The Animal Kingdom combines perfectly the mix of animal attractions and thrill rides. Part's of the park even let you get up close and personal with some of the smaller animal's.
As you step into the park you may well be taken aback slightly by the scale of the place. You'll look at your park map and think to yourself "where do I start. Where do I go first? ". This first reaction is normal but the reality is there is a lot of space taken up by the animal's so you just follow your chosen route and you'll be fine.
As we said there are 7 different lands to discover.
- Dinoland U.S.A
- Asia
- Africa
- Rafiki's Planet Watch
- Camp Minnie Mickey
- Oasis
- Discovery Island
Each land bring's with it, it's own adventure's and discoveries. In Dinoland U.S.A you'll come face to face with some of the most terrifying creature's that ever existed in 'Dinosaur' the ride.
Moving to Asia you'll be experience one of the most exhilarating ride's every created in 'Expedition Everest'. You'll travel on a roller coater through the Forbidden Mountain only to discover that the track is twisted and broken. The adventure get's even more terrifying as on your return trip back down the infamous Yeti give's chase. Not For The Faint Hearted. Also in Asia is the 'Kali River Rapid's' - here you'll descend the Chakranadi River in a circular raft where your sure to come off absolutely drenched.
'Rafiki's Planet Watch' and 'Discovery Island' is where you'll be able to meet some of the many animal's at Animal Kingdom. Kid's will love the ' Affection Section' where they get to cuddle animal's like goat's and sheep. At the 'Conservation Station' you'll be able to meet animal's and learn about the behind the scene's work undertaken at the park.
'Africa' can only mean one thing - Safari. You'll forget your in Florida and not the Savanna when you climb on board 'The Kilimanjaro Safaris'. All sort's of animal's roam here in an area covering 100 acre's. Each tour is different as the animal's are basically running wild here so you don't know what to expect each time. You'll board an open sided all terrain vehicle and set off through wasteland and river's with a tour guide creating the atmosphere all the way. Don't expect thing's to go to smoothly though as after all this is Disney World and anything could happen.
As the name suggest's 'Oasis' is an oasis in this vast park. Here you can relax as you stroll through the many trail's and path's which house many animal's including many types of exotic bird's.
'Camp Minnie-Mickey' is a great place to get those all important character photo's and autograph's. You'll find all your favorite character's here in one place so you'll not be running round looking for Donald or Goofy as you'll know exactly where they are.
Don't forget to check out the time's of the parade's when you arrive so you know when to expect them to pass a certain location.
The one thing you'll notice different at Animal Kingdom to the other Disney Park's is the absence of any firework's as they don't want to cause any stress to the animal's.
Summing up the Animal Kingdom - The animal Kingdom is a relatively stress free day with two totally different concept's on a theme park that bring's thrill seeker's and animal lover's together in one park.
